When you pronounce the number 9 in Thai (‘Kao’) it is thought to be lucky because when you pronounce this in Thai it sounds like moving forward (‘Kaw-nah’). The number 9 is seen to be extremely lucky in Thai culture. A fun fact: The licence plate with the number 9999 is worth over 11 million Thai Baht which is roughly about a quarter of a million pounds.

The number 9 is auspicious because there are many nines in royal and religious heritage. The Thai digit for 9 is similar to a symbol that is seen on the Buddha’s forehead.
